It has been four weeks into being part of a quarantine during a worldwide pandemic as a result of Covid-19. Some are still working as they are essential workers in healthcare. They are working to keep our people safe and healthy. Other essential workers are working to help our cities and towns to run as smooth as they possibly can. Many of us have had time to be at home as we are unable to work in our communities. We have been spending more time with our families and our children, amongst our belongings in our homes. We have literally been living off of the essential things in life. Have we seen a change in what is considered ‘essential’ in our world today? 100%
What do you consider essential?
When the word essential is used during this pandemic, we think about what we need to live with. We need food, water, shelter and items to keep us safe. For the most part we are not buying more items then we need and we are buying the food and essential items needed to stay safe. Stay safe is the key word.
So, as our children are taking their school courses online, the increase in other online courses are also on the rise, which is amazing! Online learning opens up more time for kids to learn at their own pace, when it works for them and for as long or a little as each student needs to. This in a sense is working to do what is essential. This allows time and space to do what is important to them. This has allowed time for many families to purchase our online courses to help teach their children how to stay safe as this is essential.
Also, the word essential is very fitting for the courses that we offer here at Your Digital Classroom. We offer safety courses that teach topics surrounding safety for our kids. Would our children’s safety courses be considered essential? Most definitely. The skills that the kids learn in our courses are invaluable. When a child takes our first course, Stranger Danger; Internet Safety & Bullying 101, they learn skills that they can use now when the are 7 and 8 years old as well as skills they can use while they are in University walking through campus on their own. Again, the skills taught in our Home Alone Course with First Aid may be a child’s first experience learning about what to do if they choke while at home alone or if a sibling chokes. Are these just teachings for a child? Not at all, these skills can be taken all throughout life as they become older and wiser and have families of their own.
Finally, our ever so popular Babysitters Course. What is taught in this course is invaluable. It is full of skills needed for every day life that can be used throughout your child’s entire life. Again, as they get older, the skills may become a little more complex, but the teachings that we teach in our courses are basic life saving skills as well as basic personal development skills that can be taken with them all throughout their life.
Our courses are the building blocks for children to become teens, then young adults to becoming parents. Many of the first aid and safety that are taught in our courses are taught for adults in their first aid courses needed for jobs and careers. We cater our classes to the minds of children ages 7-15 years old, however, these skills are timeless.
So, when you take the time in the next few weeks and months with your family and you realize what is essential in society today and for your family, we wish you all the best to stay safe and happy and to do what is essential for you.
